Located in the scenic heart of Judith Basin County, the Antelope Creek Ranch is a timeless, classic cattle ranch that captures the essence of Central Montana. Spanning across picturesque rolling hills and diverse terrain, the ranch is graced by the meandering waters of Antelope Creek and West Fork of Antelope Creek.  One of the ranch’s many charms is its sense of privacy, despite its convenient location along a country road. Surrounding Antelope Creek, you’ll find lush, productive hayland, with some areas benefiting from irrigation for optimal crop yield. The ranch boasts a harmonious blend of open pastures, fertile bottom land, and natural cover, making it an ideal choice for outdoorsman and the seasoned cattle producer alike. With its breathtaking vistas, abundant wildlife, and rich agricultural resources, the Antelope Creek Ranch offers a truly unparalleled ranching experience that embodies the spirit of the Central Montana.

Ranch Location:

The ranch is in Judith Basin County 16 miles southwest of Hobson with convenient access via a six-mile stretch of highway and ten miles of county gravel road.  Judith Basin County is an area known for excellent hunting and fishing. The Little Belt and Snowy Mountains provide a picturesque backdrop containing approximately 880,000 acres of National Forest for public recreation. The ranch and the Little Belts are in a general tag area for hunting Elk. The Little Belt Mountains area fishing includes smaller streams, the Judith River, and Ackley Lake.

The town of Hobson has a population of around 215 and has a K-12 school plus grocery store, café, churches, and bar/eatery. Utica is located 8 miles to the north with a community hall and a café/eatery.  Lewistown is 40 miles to the east and Great Falls is 90 miles to the northwest for private airstrips, medical services, and retail shopping.

Ranch Size & Operation:

Spanning 3,476.55 deeded acres, with an additional 520 acres on a State of Montana Lease, the Antelope Creek Ranch is a substantial land holding.  Boasting a picturesque blend of rolling pastures adorned by the meandering Antelope Creek and the West Fork of Antelope Creek, this property offers a picturesque landscape that serves as a reliable water source for both livestock and wildlife.

Generally the ranch has good hay production and productive hard grass pastures and with average annual precipitation would support up to 150-200 animal units. In addition to its expansive pastureland, the ranch also features about 450 acres of tillable lands. Of the 450 tillable land approximately 150 acres are irrigable through flood irrigation. On average the hayland will produce 1 to 1.5 ton per acre.  This mix of pasture and cropland creates a balanced and diverse landscape that presents opportunities for various agricultural endeavors, including hay production, grazing, and cultivation.

Water & Water Rights:

Antelope Creek offers a reliable source of water for wildlife and livestock on the ranch. The ranch holds irrigation, stock, and domestic water rights. These water rights provide further opportunities for agricultural activities on the ranch, allowing for irrigation of cropland and pastures, as well as providing water for domestic and livestock use.  The Department of Natural Resources and Conservation indicates the following water right numbers are listed on the subject property (Montana water rights are subject to re-adjudication by the Montana Water Court and, as a result, may be changed).

Ranch Recreation:

The location and topography of the ranch create an ideal habitat for various wildlife species. Upland birds, antelope, white-tailed deer, and mule deer thrive in this environment. The ranch is bordered by Antelope Creek and the West Fork of Antelope Creek, which are surrounded by rolling hills and benches covered in native grass. These features make it an excellent habitat for Sharp-tailed Grouse.  As we move closer to the creek, the landscape transitions to thick grass and pockets of willows. This area provides the perfect nesting grounds for Pheasants and Hungarian partridge. The creek itself serves as a valuable water source, and its presence attracts a variety of wildlife. Big game species such as Mule Deer, White-tailed Deer, and Antelope extensively utilize the property. They take advantage of the coulees, using them for bedding and shelter. The creek not only provides fresh water but also serves as a crucial location for these animals to give birth to their fawns.

Summary and Price:

Antelope Creek Ranch is just under 5,000 acres of open land all in one block on the shadows of the Little Belt Mountains.  The ranch and the Little Belts are in a general tag area for Elk which is a huge benefit.  Agriculturally, the ranch can be utilized in various ways either year round or seasonally.  The 400 plus acres of tillable lands along the brushy creek bottoms if rotated with grains, alfalfa, and sainfoin would dramatically improve the production and the upland bird and deer populations.  In summary, the Antelope Creek Ranch is an excellent opportunity to own land in one of Central Montana more desirable areas. A new owner can operate a sizable cattle operation or enjoy the recreation on and off the ranch.

The Antelope Creek Ranch is offered for $5,490,000.  (a Forest Service Grazing Permit for 119 head in the Little Belt Mountains is available for purchase).
(81 Bred Cows, 46 Bred Heifers, 21 Heifer Yearlings, and 24 Bulls are available for purchase).
